PTA Approved vs Network Supported vs Non-PTA — Which to Buy?
A plain-language guide to PTA status in Pakistan — what each status means, the risks, and the real cost difference for Pixel owners.
The PTA Status Dilemma
When browsing for a Google Pixel in Pakistan, you'll encounter three main statuses: Approved, Network Supported, and Non-PTA. Choosing the wrong one can lead to a "No Service" badge on your screen within 60 days.
1. PTA Approved
This is the gold standard. The device's IMEI is officially registered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. It works on all local SIMs (Jazz, Zong, Telenor, Ufone) permanently.
2. Network Supported (CPID)
These devices are "patched" using a CPID service to allow them to work on local networks without the official (and often expensive) PTA tax. While they work like Approved units today, there is a small risk associated with future software updates.
3. Non-PTA
These are units that haven't been registered. You get 60 days of SIM usage (per slot) before the network is blocked. Best for those who use WiFi only or are visiting Pakistan temporarily.
